What is Granite?

Granite is a tough, durable rock--only diamonds are stronger--made up mostly of 3 different minerals. These minerals are easy to see because of their different colors. Each piece of granite is uniquely beautiful.

Granite is an igneous stone created inside the earth during its formation millions of years ago. Granite is primarily composed of mica, feldspar and the most resistant of all common minerals--quartz.	Designers often consider the "grain" of granite. Some granites have uniform grain while others are variegated. Thus, each application for granite has countless possibilities.	The weight of granite varies somewhat, depending on the granite type. Per square foot, a 3/4" slab of granite will weigh between 12-15 pounds.
